Retroblogging, Part 1: City Park, Tattered Cover, Warrior Cats!

Emma and I have spent a couple of Saturdays over the last few months browsing the stacks and reading at Tattered Cover, which is now just five minutes away from the house now that it's moved to Colfax. Yay. (No more need to venture near snooty, overpriced Cherry Creek.)

We love this store -- hardly alone in that, of course. The other day we were at the Barnes & Nobles at the Pavilions and she was swooning in awe that it had the entire Warriors collection. But then she said she still preferred TC because "it's just more ... I don't know ... magical." Indeed it is.

Anyway, she's on Book 6 of the original Warriors series. Chapter 19 to be exact. She can't even wait to get home to start reading whenever we get a new one.

The other place we've been hanging out a fair bit is City Park ... makes sense since it's just down the street. We've been so happy now that winter has lifted (except for last week's snow). So we've packed some nibbles from the deli, thrown a blanket and Em's bike in the car and schlepped on over there. It's easy to spend a few hours there. Em's getting better on her bike, though she gets a bit self conscious when she sees other kids whizzing by on theirs. She wonders if they think it's odd she's still using training wheels. Have to remind her it hasn't been a year yet since the surgery ... and then she remembers to be proud of how far she's come.

The first time we went out it was overcast and cool, not too busy. So she practiced riding her bike in the circular roadway surrounding the MLK Jr. memorial. Across the street from it is an interactive exhibit where you can hear more about his life, which fascinates her. So learning about history and the civil rights can be done from atop a purple Huffy bike ... life is good.

Retroblogging, Part 2: Nuggets, 107. Trailblazers, 99.

'Bout 4 p.m. on March 13, a pair of great tix for that night's Nuggets game landed on my desk thanks to my editorial colleague. Emma was at her dad's house that evening, but he agreed to let me take her -- even though she got home a little after 10 p.m. Well past a school night bedtime. Remember when you were a kid and that seemed so dangerous and exciting?

Anyway, we had a grand time. Emma seriously gets into the Nuggets. Bet it has something to do with their mascot being a mountain lion. ("Go Rocky, go Rocky, go!")

This was our first time seeing Allen Iverson in action. Also, Emma and I have never been to a Nugget (or Rox) game when they lost. Cool, huh? OK, yeah, just don't ask how many games we've been to total. Let's let the impressiveness stand, shall we?

Let's go fly a kite.

Couldn't have asked for a better day to fly a kite, that's for sure, especially since this was Emma's first experience with a kite. Oh, and she made her own.

I had registered Em and her BFF, Alexis, in the kite making class scheduled today at the aptly named Majestic Nature Center. Nice little class. Didn't take much time. Certainly didn't cost much money - $3 a child.

Afterward, the girls tested their creations, of course, and declared them a success. I would have to agree.

To celebrate, we went to lunch at Taqueria Patzcuaro, which Alexis said ought to be named "Best Nachos in the World." Indeed.

Anyway, it's been ages since I've posted. Such a bad blogger, I know. Ah, well. Just don't have the kind of time I used to have ... and it's easy to get out of practice. But I've taken plenty of pics since the last blizzard (eh ... bad word). Speaking of snow, though, we got dumped on Thursday. The wind created quite the drift on my car. It was piled high. Happily, it didn't last long. Such is springtime in the Rockies. (Well, in front of the Rockies.)
